Facebook versus Twitter

versus

Facebook has just turned 10 years old and has done amazingly well for itself in such a short span of time. It is the most popular social network platform in the world with a user base of over one billion. It has replaced MySpace as the leading social network site in the US and with help of prompt and vigorous marketing, it now ranks at the top in terms of use and advertising.

The story of Twitter is somewhat similar as well. It introduced the concept of micro blogging and become an instant hit among the masses. After then, it got repeated attention in the media with elite celebrities joining it one by one and using it for their celebrity activity and well as for social followers. Today, with over 300 plus million users, it is considered to be one of the most quick and effective way to spread news.

If we compare Facebook to Twitter, according to larger member's base, Facebook seems to be more popular than Twitter but we can not really say which platform is better. For marketers, in terms of 'return on advertising' they both work differently and depending on which niche you are in they are both effective for different reasons.

For instance, one can advertise using Facebook, with your chosen campaign, wording and banner to the cost involved for a period of time. Then using Twitter ads with exactly the same campaign, and the costs associated. Depending if you want your ad to enrich your mailing list or just want traffic to your website, you can determine the effectiveness of each one to the cost of advertising and then compare which platform is better for your niche.

Which every action you take, both of social networks should be applauded for revolutionizing online social media.
